George Lane, Auction.com’s Deputy General Counsel, was recently named a 2020 HousingWire Rising Star. This prestigious award goes to industry leaders who help move the market forward.

Being chosen as a 2020 Rising Star is an amazing and humbling honor,” said Lane. “This is a testament to being part of an unrivaled legal team as well as having the opportunity to work with an industry leading workforce every day.

In the highly regulated, ultra-compliant disposition real estate industry, Lane doesn’t just help lead the nation’s largest foreclosure marketplace through legal and compliance challenges — he is at the forefront of initiatives and new product launches that are revolutionizing the industry. From helping to create and implement legally sound business and corporate strategies to redefining the selling of foreclosures online in Ohio, George Lane is a Rising Star making significant contributions to both his company and the industry.

Lane leads a team of lawyers involved in every new Auction.com product, business idea, and initiative, including opening new markets and introducing new auction strategies. Lane ensures that Auction.com can successfully traverse the legal landscape of all 50 states and more than 3,100 counties. With Auction.com being the nation’s leading online foreclosure marketplace, George and his team’s legally sound guidance and business-savvy decisions help influence the company’s direction and support the industry’s success.

George and the legal team have had many game-changing, industry-impacting business accomplishments in which they had participated heavily:

  • The implementation of various auction strategies, such as remote and proxy bidding and extend the bid, which have or are beginning to have revolutionary effects in helping lenders obtain maximum value on their distressed inventory and more fully engaging buyers.
  • Creating and drafting “a 50-state solution” for purchase and sale agreements, giving Auction.com the ability to use an easy plug-and-play purchase and sales agreement nationwide as well as digitize the contracting process
  • Implementing foreclosure sales online in Ohio, which included achieving changes to the Ohio laws, increasing the effectiveness of online sales of foreclosure properties, and enabling the process to be workable for an online sales environment.
  • Executing a communications and engagement strategy for the hundreds of foreclosure law firms across the nation that work intimately with disposition organizations. These firms are critical partners for Auction.com and the disposition of thousands of homes across the country. George and his team have developed relationships and participate in many organizations to work closely with firms to keep abreast of legislation, legal issues, policies, and initiatives that affect the industry and help achieve better results for Auction.com and its clients. The goal is to work with law partners to benefit and strengthen the industry. Auction.com was awarded the USFN Robert Klein Associate Member of the Year Award for 2019.

While at Auction.com, George has received the Commitment to Excellence Award and was named multiple times as an Impact Player and a Game Changer, titles bestowed upon Auction.com employees for going above and beyond. George holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas and a J.D. from Texas Tech University School of Law, where he graduated Order of the Coif, served as editor of The Texas Bank Lawyer, and served as a member of the Board of Barristers.
